Press ReleaseReturn to the Press Release Index FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fun is NOT Just for Holidays!Memorial Day Weekend is many times thought of as a time for family picnics, back yards barbecues, and having fun, along with paying tribute to the soldiers whom have served our country. Sometimes employers think that fun is to be reserved for just time off but in reality employees who have fun together work together better, are more creative and their productivity is higher. With all those benefits what employer would not want to incorporate fun into their work environment? According to Barb Wingfield in her recent book Retaining Your Employees she has developed some guidelines for having fun in the workplace. 1. Never make anyone feel awkward for not joining in. 2. Know employees as individuals, and ask them for their input about what’s really fun to them. 3. Start slowly with a few activities and communicate your desire to create a more relaxed workplace. Don’t expect things to turn around over night. Wingfield the Workplace Morale Specialist suggests a few ideas to help improve the fun atmosphere in businesses. Food is always a great activity. Remember the people who have restricted diets or are on weight lose programs. An added interest could be to select a theme. Don’t forget that a variety of activities can enhance your ability to solve stressful problems. A basketball hoop, a plastic bowling set or stress balls at the table during a meeting can be helpful. Another way to have fun and to recognize employees’ lives beyond work is to ask them to bring a picture of a previous vacation, post it on the bulletin board and ask everyone to match the correct employee with the vacation location. There are lots of different ways to have fun at work, still be professional and accomplish the needed tasks. The key is ask people for their input and not make anyone feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. |
