QUICK Notes

Do you remember a time when you received a note from an employer or supervisor that made you feel happy and appreciated all day? When was the last time you received a note like that? Or better yet, when was the last time you sent a note of praise or recognition?

Too often employees put the bulk of the responsibility for work environment morale on the supervisor or owner. In reality morale is the responsibility of everyone. One way to improve morale is to write a note of thanks. Writing a note of appreciation or thanks can be done by anyone, it isn't a task that is reserved for middle or upper management. It only takes a few minutes but the joy and happiness it brings can truly raise the workplace morale. Notes usually have a domino effect and other people begin to pass along the kindness. People are sometimes reluctant to write notes because they don't know what to say or how to say it.

Listed below is the QUICK method to note writing that will help you write your next note QUICK and with ease.

QUICK Notes of thanks and appreciation do not have to be long letters. They are valued just as much when they are only two or three sentences. The paradox "less is more" also applies to notes.

UNIQUE The note needs to explain what special or unique action you are recognizing them for. Notes can be given for a host of different reasons: from dealing with an upset customer, to coming in early or staying late. The recipient must know why you are taking the time to acknowledge their contribution.

IMMEDIATE The note needs to be given or sent as soon as possible after the person has accomplished a good deed. Saving up the praise and recognition for a yearly review lessens the enthusiasm felt by the person. You will also have less of a chance of having the good will reach out into the entire workplace if you wait.

CONTINUAL Notes of appreciation or thanks needs to be part of our workdays. Some employers make a special effort to schedule into their day taking the time to catch someone doing something right.

KEY The key to note writing is be genuine and sincere when writing the note. Writing notes is to be done because you are truly thankful or appreciative of what someone has done. Writing notes are not be done with career advancement goals in mind but because you truly care.

The QUICK note method is easy and simple to use. It can be done by anyone. In our fast paced world taking the time to write a note that someone can hold and keep is a valuable tool. Notes can be written on any type of paper, or a fancy note card. The secret to note writing is just to do it!
