Are You A Green Thumb Manager?

Are You A Green Thumb Manager?

The Green Thumb Managers test is designed for CEO’s Owners and Management who are wondering why their organization is NOT a top producing workforce! Many times employers feel the problems lies in the front line employees when in reality the employer could benefit from reflecting on the type of nuturing work environment you provide.

Take a few minutes and answer the following questions with either a Yes or a No.

Can you specifically remember the last time you …

Gave a sincere compliment?

Wrote a thank you note?

Talked to a front line employee about something other than their job?

Walked around your business and talked with the employees without a specific agenda?

Talked to all employees about the organizational vision?

Encouraged and provided professional growth opportunities for your staff?

Admitted you didn’t have all the answers?

Asked non-involved employees for their opinions on a key decision?

Encouraged activities to build an enjoyable atmosphere?

Listened more than you talked?

Asked a valued employee, "What will it take for you to stay?"

Count the number of yes answers and compare your number to the chart.

11-9 Congratulation you are a Green Thumb Manager and you are doing an excellent job of cultivating your employees!

8-6 You are on the right track but there is room for improvement. Your employees want to flourish but they need your input.

5-3 I’ll bet you think some of these questions are stupid and don’t apply to your organization. Think again!

0-2 Time to step back and take a long hard look on the type of work environemnt you are cultivating.

So how did you score? Were you surprised at your score? Too often in the work environment CEO’s, owners or senior management overlook the importance of their leadership style as effecting key problems such as turnover rate, low productivity and absenteeism. They point their fingers at middle management or shift supervisors who they feel are the only ones who are effecting these key problems.
